Dua Before Starting Your Journey

Before​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ going on a journey Our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to recite the following dua. It is a dua full of blessing that assures the support and the protection of the Almighty during the whole journey. Starting off your trip with this dua is probably the best thing you can do. It is permissible for you to recite it when you get into your car, bus, or airplane for your Umrah ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌journey. 

Arabic:

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ

Transliteration:

Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, Subḥānal-ladhī sakhkhara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahu muqrinīn wa innā ilā rabbinā lamunqalibūn.

Meaning:

“Allah is the Greatest. Glory be to Him Who has subjected this (transport) to us, and we could never have done it (by ourselves). And indeed, to our Lord we will return.”

Dua for Protection and Safety During Travel

Before​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ going for the most spiritual retreat of your life, it is a must that you pray for God’s protection and safety during your journey. Arabic:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَى، وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى، اللَّهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هَذَا، وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَهُ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ، وَالْخَلِيفَةُ فِي الْأَهْلِ

Transliteration:

Allāhumma innā nas’aluka fī safarinā hādhā al-birra wa al-taqwā, wa min al-ʿamali mā tarḍā. Allāhumma hawwin ʿalaynā safaranā hādhā waṭwi ʿannā buʿdah. Allāhumma anta al-ṣāḥibu fi al-safar wa al-khalīfatu fi al-ahl.

Meaning:

“O Allah, we ask You during this journey for righteousness and piety, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Guardian of our family.”

Dua for Ease and Protection in Crowded Spaces

The​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ umrah crowd during Ramadan is one of the biggest at the holy places. In order to get exceptional rewards for performing Umrah in Ramadan, millions gather around the Kaaba. Dealing with huge crowds and long waiting lines is very exhausting. Arabic:

حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ

Transliteration:

Ḥasbunallāhu wa ni‘mal-wakīl.

Meaning:

“Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs.”

Special Ramadan Dua for Protection From Harm

There is no one more powerful than Allah Almighty. Only He has the power to protect you from all kinds of harm. You can recite this special dua for protection from damage during your Umrah in Ramadan. 

Arabic:

اللَّهُمَّ احْفَظْنِي وَاحْفَظْ أَهْلِي وَارْزُقْنِي عِبَادَةً صَادِقَةً فِي رَمَضَانَ

Transliteration:

Allāhumma ihfaẓnī wa ihfaẓ ahli wa urzuqnī ʿibādatan ṣādiqatan fī Ramaḍān.

Meaning:

“O Allah, protect me and my family, and grant me sincere worship during Ramadan.”

Dua for the Safety of Family While You Are Away

If​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ you are performing an Umrah by yourself, it is possible that you are thinking about your family that is at home. It is definitely a beautiful thing to ask Allah for their well-being first of all when you are going to the spiritual retreat and then when you are at the pilgrimage sites. You may say a prayer like this to Allah in order to have your family kept safe and ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌sound. 

Arabic:

أَسْتَوْدِعُكُمُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا تَضِيعُ وَدَائِعُهُ

Transliteration:

Astawdī‘ukumullāh alladhī lā taḍī‘u wadā‘i‘uh.

Meaning:

“I leave you in the care of Allah, whose protection never fails.”

Dua Upon Entering Makkah

We all know how sacred Makkah is. Anyone who gets a chance to visit this holy city is fortunate. This will be the first place you will see to perform your Umrah rituals. As you enter this sacred city, you can recite the following dua. 

Arabic:

اللَّهُمَّ هَذَا حَرَمُكَ وَأَمْنُكَ، فَحَرِّمْنِي عَلَى النَّارِ، وَآمِنِّي مِنْ عَذَابِكَ يَوْمَ تُبْعَثُ عِبَادُكَ

Transliteration:

Allāhumma hādhā ḥaramuka wa amnuka, faḥarrimnī ‘ala al-nār, wa āminnī min ‘adhābika yawma tub‘athu ‘ibāduk.

Meaning:

“O Allah, this is Your sacred sanctuary and place of safety. Make me forbidden for the Fire and protect me from Your punishment on the Day Your servants are raised.”
